which was lit completely by the electricity. In the year 1889, Richard D’Oyly
Carte built Savoy Hotel adjacent to the theatre. For several years, Savoy theatre acted as a
home to the company of D’Oyly Carte.
In the year 1929, Richard’s son
Rupert D’Oyly Carte reconstructed Savoy
theatre. He equipped theatre with some modern techniques. After a fire, the
theatre was rebuilt and underwent huge refurbishments. The current occupancy of
the theatre is 1150 on 3 levels and is a Grade II listed building.
